On February 3, 2016, the King signed RE-001 into law. RE-001 is also known as the Metric Conversion Act. This Royal Edict requires government institutions to convert all measurements to the metric system by February 29th. The edict also recommends that citizens use the metric system as well, but that they are not required to. The government has started the conversion under the King's direction, as required by the edict.
At the beginning of the month, the Kingdom celebrated the coming of the New Year. The King hoped for the nation to become active and stable. To accomplish this goal, he started many government projects such as a currency, a national Coat of Arms, and the national anthem.
On 3 January, the King updated the website with a new layout and a mobile-friendly theme. He also moved the Theolonia Times from WordPress to the main website. More details can be found here. The first official Mallanorian Flag Day was held on 8 January. This holiday celebrates the adoption of the first Mallanorian Flag. The King posted an article in the Theolonia Times about the meaning behind the flag of Mallanor, which can be found here. On 20 January, the Minister of Culture, Kaylee Smith, stepped down from her position on the Royal Council. She cited a lack of time to devote to her duties as a minister. This was announced by the King here. The next elections for Prime Minister were announced by the King on 20 January. The elections are to be held on 9 April. The King called for anyone who wished to run for the office of Prime Minister to respond with their intentions. Soon afterwards, Dallin Langford, the current Minister of Security and Justice, announced that he intends to run for election with Emma Amtra as his Deputy. More information on Dallin’s plans as Prime Minister will be provided later. The incumbent Prime Minister of Mallanor, Michael Hinnebusch II, announced that he would run for reelection in April. He has not announced who his Deputy will be. More information on Michael’s plans will be provided later. Kaylee Smith, the Mallanorian Minister of Culture, announced that she has stepped down from her position on the Royal Council on January 20. She cited a lack of time to devote to her duties as the primary reason for her resignation. The former minister was involved in many government projects, primarily in the area of graphic design. She designed the alternate flags that were present in the flag design election. She was in the process of drawing a new national Coat of Arms and designing coins for the future monetary system at the time of her resignation. Kaylee stated that even though she is resigning from her position in government, she will continue to participate actively as a citizen in elections.
On 8 January, the first officially planned Flag Day will be celebrated around the Kingdom. Flag Day is a national holiday in Mallanor, so I will explain the significance of the holiday, the design of the flag, and one way to celebrate. Flag Day is a holiday celebrating the adoption of the first Mallanorian flag. The first flag, which is still the flag today, has a white background with a blue stylized gear in the middle. The white color symbolizes the peacefulness of Mallanor and the blue gear symbolizes knowledge and innovation. There are many ways to celebrate Flag Day, but I will suggest one way. As there are no physical flags in Mallanor, one way to celebrate is to print out a flag onto a letter sized sheet of paper and hanging it somewhere in your house. Ultimately, Flag Day is a holiday for celebrating the flag, so you can celebrate it however you wish, as long as it is in a respectful manner.
I have changed the layout of this website, as some of you have noticed. I have done this for three main reasons:
